OUR FAVOURITE RESTAURANT

If you like meat then Pantagruel in Ostuni centro storico is unmissable.

Ordering the 'Antipasti Tipici' as a starter will provide you with a selection of some of the finest local dishes we have tasted in Italy. Followed up by choosing from the wide range of meats, all cooked simply over the hot coals to allow the exceptional quality of the meat to be the star of the show.

The staff are excellent, and the venue relaxed and informal.

Located just down a side street to the right as you start to head up Via Cattedrale from the main square, it is usually identifiable by a genuine 500 year old suit of armour that stands outside.

We love this place so much that we can rarely find a reason good enough to go anywhere else - and why bother with food this good!

OUR FAVOURITE BAR

Our favourite venue to enjoy a drink before eating out is Cafe Parisi, in Ostuni centro storico.

Located on a bend of Via Cattedrale on the left as you head up the hill, there are seats inside and out so ideal for all weather. The outside seating provides a great place to sit and watch the comings and goings of the old town whilst relaxing with some drinks.

Whilst not the cheapest place to have a drink in Ostuni, it is comparable with the other bars in the old town, and the excellent selection of snacks provided with your beverages makes it fairly decent value for money.

Open most of the day, the cafe is also a good place to grab a coffee/snack if you're only looking for a light lunch.

OUR FAVOURITE CAFE

With so many cafes to choose from, we find it is all about the people. Cafe Fanelli, located just to one side of the Piazza della Liberta in Ostuni, and overlooked by the statue of Sant'Oronzo is run by Pasquale and Mariella.

We have met a lot of lovely people since living in the area but these two really are incredibly nice, and couldn't do enough for us when we first arrived.

They serve good value coffees, and all the standard pastries including the tastiest 'pastaciotto' in town. They also have a selection of foccacie and other freshly prepared meals should you want something more substantial. The cafe also doubles up as a kind of newsagents - so papers, magazines, and small toys for the kids are available.
